Why did you choose True?

Helping to solve big, gnarly problems has always interested me, and doing that through cutting edge tech makes sense, but ultimately it was True’s description of a ‘‘team-first’ culture and the B Corp certification that clinched it for me.

How would you describe your job to a five-year-old?

I help people who own shops sell better stuff, for cheaper, and in a more fun way.

What book, article or movie has profoundly impacted your life?

The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins. I read it in my late teens and that appreciation for the very fundamental process by which all living things came to be has shaped how I think, not just about biology, but all complex systems and cultures.

If you could reimagine something to make life easier for people, what would it be?

A system of direct-democracy where your own AI-powered, algorithmically trained avatar votes on every socio-eco-political decision of government on your behalf, based on a detailed understanding of your preferences, ethics and personal values, plus it’s own estimation of the likely real-world implications of that decision. I think we would see a much fairer, more equitable world.

What innovation are you most excited about disrupting the current retail and consumer landscape?

I don’t know if you’ve heard of a thing called Artificial Intelligence..? Seems like it could be helpful. Besides the obvious, I think we are on the cusp of some innovative business models made available by smart-warehousing, automation and robotics.
